Rodrigo F. Marques (PT)

Rodrigo Fernandes Marques had the first contact with percussion at the Arganil Philharmonic Association in 2009. He began his musical studies in 2010 and studied at the Conservatory of Music of Coimbra with Professor Ismael Silva and Professor Andrés Perez. He continued his study at the University of Aveiro with professor Mário Teixeira and at present at the LUCA University College of Arts in the class of Dr. Ludwig Albert. He participated in several international  masterclasses with, Svet Stoyanov, Ji Hye Jung, Wojtchek Herzyk, Nick Woud, Joaquim Alves, Pedro Carneiro, Jeffery Davis, Bart Quartier, Eriko Daimo, Miquel Bernat, Rebecca Kite, Michael Burrit, Kuniko Kato, Javier Nandayapa and Chin Cheng Lin. He worked with conductors such as Eduardo Gracía-Barrios, Alberto Roque, Paulo Martins.He was Professor at the music academies of the Arganil Philharmonic Association, the Music Band of Freixo and the New Band of Fermentelos.

He won the 2nd place marimba solo in the 8th and 10th international Tomarimbando marimba contest in Portugal and the 1st place in Competition of the Conservatory of Coimbra which presented him as soloist marimba with the Orquestra Clássica do Centro. From 2017, he won the first Prize composition at the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium with his work "Ulular del Tigre" which will be placed as set piece during the Universal Marimba Competition 2020, as well as his marimba duo work ‘Magic Sphere”. He received the First Prize Marimba at the International Philadelphia Competition Italy.

He performed with Ludwig Albert and was presented, as well, as jury at the renown Drumfest Poland 2017 with the collaboration of the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra. His collaboration with Ludwig Albert was in 2017-2018 also presented at the International Adams Festival Netherlands 2017, The Oh percussion Academy in Korea and the International Percussion Festival Portimao (Portugal) and continues touring during 2019 in Thailand, Portugal, Mexico, Taiwan, Belgium and Australia. He’s related as artistic director and guest professor of the annual Ludwig Albert International Marimba Academy and as staff member and composer in residence of the World leading Universal Marimba Competition. His method in improvisation and upcoming compositions will be published by Splendid Arts edition Belgium as well as the latest Concerto Permafrost which he composed together with Ludwig Albert and which will be handled as set piece for the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition Belgium and the International Jeju Percussion Competition Korea. At present he’s completing new compositions for upcoming concert productions and label CD projects (US 2022) with Ludwig Albert such as works for marimba duo (Belgium) and marimba concerto’s with symphonic orchestra (Prague). In 2021 he founded with Astrid Espinoza Bordon the the Amazul marimba duo wich became 1st Prize Laureate of the Universal Marimba Competition 2021. During last years he was invited at several international festivals in Portugal, Romania, Italy, Russia, S-Korea, Australia, Poland....
