Foo Pui Yee (HK / BE)
Fiona Pui-Yee Foo is an active marimbist from Hong Kong recognized for her refined artistry and commanding stage presence. Her performances have been praised for their “excellent coordination with superb demonstration of contemporary techniques” and for a “distinctive, expressive, and beautifully individual musical voice.” She began performing publicly as a pianist at the age of four and as a percussionist at six, developing into a versatile and compelling soloist.
Fiona has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and the United States, appearing throughout Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macao, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. As a concerto soloist, she has collaborated with orchestras under the direction of distinguished conductors including Takuo Yuasa, François-Xavier Roth, and Alexander Shelley. She was also invited to give the world premiere of the revised version of Ney Rosauro’s marimba concerto, conducted by the composer himself.
Her artistic achievements include First Prize at the Yamaha Europe Music Foundation Award, as well as prize laureate recognition at the Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium and other international competitions. Fiona holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Master’s degrees (Solo Marimba and Chamber Music) from LUCA School of Arts in Belgium, both awarded with Highest Distinction. She studied under leading figures including Alan Cumberland (timpani), Dr. Lung Heung-Wing (western percussion), Yim Hok-Man (Chinese percussion), and renowned marimba virtuoso Dr. Ludwig Albert (marimba). She is also a recipient of professional diplomas from Trinity College London, including the Fellowship (FTCL) in Performance.
Fiona is an endorsing artist for Adams Musical Instruments, Innovative Percussion Inc., and Pearl Drum Europe. She also serves as Artistic Director of the International Hong Kong Percussion Convention, Competition & Festival.
